Functional Genomics

Functional genomics aims at describing functions and relationships of both genes and proteins. By using various computational methods, we analyse genomic and transcriptomic data from both livestock as well as wildlife species.

One of our main projects comprises the construction of an annotated reference genome for the roe deer (Capreolus capreolus). Hereby, we combine a variety of different techniques and data sources, i.e. long and short read sequencing. Further projects include the analyses of *-omics data, such as RNASeq, Bisulfit-Seq and more. We maintain an own Galaxy server and develop bioinformatics pipelines and software tools applicable to the specific needs relating to non-well annotated species.
